In 1851 the Three Tuns was located in High Street in the property now called Stockton House (see the Crown, below). By 1871, it had moved to London Road with John Greaves as licensee, but it is probable that the pub had been on this site since 1862, when Greaves was first noted in Trade Directories as landlord and basket maker:
The property, which dates from about 1767, has been a private house for many years but retains its link with the past as it is named 'The Tuns'.
